13 Calle 5-45, zona 10.
Guatemala, CA

Walking into the place sure doesn’t look like much…..from the street like most of the restaurants in Guatemala it’s hidden behind a gated fence with security. Once in side it looks like a busy dinner. We opt to sit at the bar. The son is cooking tonight on his 5 foot griddle set at high to very high. There are prep cooks in the back passing ingredients to him. I am surprised to see a big display of Spanish olive oil in his work space but im soon to find out its needed. Right behind us the place fills up completely with many people waiting for tables.

Emmanuel orders for us….fresh anchovies with lemon and olive oil, a grilled fish called Mero which was outstanding. Its simplify cooked and topped with warm olive oil and chilies. The next fish was a tempura type battered Guabina…..beautiful also with fresh limes. The guys have huge shrimp “Camerones” with heads on…..lots of garlic.

We then have some grilled tenderloin medium rare and some sliced strip loin cooked the same…topped with warm olive oil with garlic, chilies, parsley. Amazing….the food is so good.

We share some manchego cheese and Serrano ham. The guys are drinking a Ron Zacapa, 23 year old rum which looks smells and tastes like cognac. Its easily one of the best meals of my life. No complications just good food.

Apparently the American couple who told the chef the steak wasn’t cooked enough were told, “Perhaps they were in the wrong restaurant” and not served.

I love it
